ABOUT ELLE3
DESIGN & INTERIORS INC.
We offer design services for residential projects including additions, renovations, new homes and accessory structures. Basically, any project that would take place on a residential property, we’re here to design!
Our services take place in three phases. Phase one, Preliminary Design & Design Development, involves working with our clients to design their project in our 3D modeling software and studying multiple design ideas to achieve the best possible design outcome based on their needs. Phase two is permit documentation and coordination; we prepare structural drawings, work with any required consultants, and communicate with the municipality until the permit is issued. Phase three is Selections Coordination; we work with our clients to select every permanent material and finish in their home, and guide them through some décor ideas and furniture styles. This looks different for every client based on how involved they would like us to be.
We believe that great design should be accessible to everyone, and are happy to cater our services to suit our client’s needs.
EMILY LAROCHELLE
Owner, Principal, Interior Designer
I have been designing spaces for 15 years, though my love of homes began much earlier. My childhood sketchbooks were not drawings, but floor plans drawn to represent homes I had seen in movies, imagined from books, or visited myself. Certainly, an odd hobby for a kid – but one that lead me without hesitation into my career as a designer.
I attended Fanshawe College after high school and graduated with a Diploma of Interior Design in 2004. I began my career in commercial interior design. After a few years, I relocated to Cambridge to begin my focus on residential interior design and construction.
In 2009, after years of internship, I was eligible to write the NCIDQ (National Council for Interior Design Qualification) exam. With my successful completion, I earned a place as a Registered Interior Designer with ARIDO the Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario. ARIDO is the governing body that protects the Interior Design title in Ontario.
Also in 2009, I wrote my BCIN exams for Small Buildings, allowing me to produce structural drawings for building permits for the residential projects I design. Prior to starting elle3, I spent 10 years with a local general contracting company that taught me more than I can put into words. The experience I gained allows me to focus on what contractors need in drawings, instructions to site, and how to physically build the spaces I design. While I have swung very few hammers, my time working with framers and walking through sites proved invaluable. The services I offer to home owners helps them to understand what their spaces could be, and how their home can evolve with their growing families.
TAYLOR YOUNG
Junior Designer, ARIDO, Intern
I have been designing spaces for 3 years, but my love of interior design and architecture started long before that.
I was drawn to interior design because of my desire to improve the lives of those in the community through the spaces they use everyday. I have worked in corporate, hospitality, healthcare and residential design, all teaching me important lessons about how people use their spaces and what we can do as designers to improve their lives in those spaces. I knew very early on that this would be the career for me, and not a day has gone by that I have second guessed that choice. To make sure I had a well-rounded start to my post secondary education and career, during high school I did a full term construction co-op and during college, worked with a design-build company to make sure I had a well-rounded knowledge of both the drawings I would be producing and what was going on, on-site.
I attended the CIDA accredited Bachelor of Interior Design Honours program at Conestoga College and graduated in 2019, finishing first in my class. After winning the Mastercraft Award in the Capstone Tech Showcase against the other top students from Conestoga College’s School of Engineering, I went on to begin my career in commercial and healthcare interior design. After a few years, I shifted my focus to residential design and construction, realizing I wanted my impact on peoples lives to start at home.
Since graduating, I have been working as an ARIDO (Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario) intern member towards my NCIDQ (National Council for Interior Design Qualification) qualifying exam and my BCIN (Building Code Identification Number) exam for small buildings allowing me to produce structural drawings for building permits.
